Yes, they died for nothing. And all Americans should be pissed off about this.
Yet the majority is silent. We worry about the Beckster rally. Or we talk about what Palin said or did.
Who really gives a fuck.
They are a side show to the real world. People are dying every single day. Our soldiers are coming back in body bags. Innocent Afghans, Iraqi's, Pakistani's are dead.
We have turned Iraq into a land of rubble. We are trying to turn Pakistan into a failed state to justify our presence. Afghanistan has become our own private killing zone.
We have Mercenaries running all over the region with a license to kill.
We have a CIA hit list which includes American citizens.
We Balkanized one region. Now the powers that be [TPTB] are Balkanizing another.
Our soldiers are dying to preserve an Empire that has no meaning any more.
America is trying to contain, and encroach upon China, and Russia. This is the agenda of the Neocons, and the Neolibs.
We are looking for a boot print in Central Asia in order to control the energy choke points.
Our soldiers are dying for the Globalized Corpotocracy. Not for the freedom or security of our nation.
We have become every thing that we have hated, and fought against.
We were once seen as a shining beacon on a hill.
Now we are seen as a drone falling in on a village.
Shame on America, and Americans for allowing themselves to be brainwashed.
Americans have opened the gates to Fascism. They will welcome it. WHY ?
Because they now prefer security over freedom.
We deserve the best government that Corporations can lease.
We will be under the thumb of the Pentagon to finance [tax] their endless wars without borders.
Shame on the democratic party for still supporting this War of Choice President.
Democrats talk about the republicans being hypocrites.
When in reality they are the biggest hypocrites of all, by backing this president and not holding his puppet strings to the fire.
These so called [dems] are cowards. Every single last spineless one of them are COWARDS.
Shame on the American people for supporting a Congress that supports, and finances these endless wars.
So go right ahead and just say it.
THEY DIED FOR NOTHING ! ! !
To all the cowards out there that are still backing this war. [You are backing it if you are silent.]
"Let me ask you one question Is your money that good Will it buy you forgiveness Do you think that it could I think you will find When your death takes its toll All the money you made Will never buy back your soul. And I hope that you die And your death'll come soon I will follow your casket In the pale afternoon And I'll watch while you're lowered Down to your deathbed And I'll stand over your grave 'Til I'm sure that you're dead.------- Bob Dylan 1963

It's true every word of what you wrote RZ. Parents who have kids in the service or people who are thinking about joining need to read this. The only problem they should have with this is accepting the reality of the truth of the matter.
Yes our soldiers are and have been dieing for just the reasons pointed out and those reasons equal NOTHING!
Thank you for this.
We have talked about this before.
I am still trying to come to terms with the fact that we are what we are. And that we have accepted the fact that we not only accept endless wars but that we as as country condone it.
I guess it is in our genes that we as a species love war. How fucking sad.
We thought that we had evolved. When is reality all wee have done is gone back to the beginning of the movie A Space Odyssey 2010. [error intended] lol.
You know, the clip where a bunch of apes are fighting over a puddle of dirty, murky, filthy, muddy oil. I mean water.
I was listening to Obama on the car radio ten minutes ago saying to troops at Fort Bliss, among other lies, that America is safer for the occupation (read devastation) of Iraq. That's one of his biggest lies yet. My only quarrel with your eloquent description is that it could be argued that they died to create a Shia theocracy in the Iraq/Iran axis. A grotesque and inadvertent outcome but no more grotesque than the carnage they created in going about it.
The US media covered up the lies going into Iraq and it's covering up the lies coming out. Unfortunately nothing else could be expected.
Oh no. I agree.
My point being is that they did not die for what the American people were told.
They died for a lot of things, and people. All for the wrong ones.
Their deaths brought riches to scores and scores of war profiteers.
I said right from the beginning that this invasion would be a failure, and that it would eventually empower Iran. And that Iraq would become a semi-Islamic Republic.
If the West can not help to form a govt. in Iraq that is 'friendly' and invite the West to stay after 2012. The West will surge right back in there.
How many troops will be permanently stationed in Kuwait, and the out lying region? Plenty.
Obama is giving the same talking points that W did. Except that O is a better salesman.
This is a SHIFT not a pull out.
The speech will be more opiate for the masses.
They are now addicted to this rhetoric. It is what they want to hear. The MSM is the Pentagons enabler.
Why are they not asking him the hard core, and pertinent questions?
Because they are told not to.
Sometimes I cannot tell if we have fallen to new lows or if I have only realized that we never were what we taught ourselves we were...
I take no pride in knowing that I was a vocal critic of this war since day one and that because of the stupidity I actually did finally vote in 2004 after not voting for over 28 years...
you're right RZ. But I feel like we have no voice, we are tired, wore out, fed up or just plain lazy. Those with family in one of these wars or have a family member killed, have my utmost sympathy. I don't know how they get out of bed every morning. Why don't we have the protests like we did for the Vietnam war? We have settled, we're bored with the whole damn thing and that is inexcusable!
It feels very much like I wrote this exact comment not too long ago...
TAO
RE: "we never were".
Bingo ! !
Sue:
Close your eyes.
Hear Obama with a Texan drawl, and presto its W reincarnated.
Yes Obama wants to turn the page. He is talking us into a new chapter of chaos. The book just as the endless wars have no ending.
Not a good speech - another foreign policy whitewashing. Can't see many inspired Iraqis.
As for why so few Americans concern themselves with US foreign policy, a partial answer - cliche but real - lies in the US media. Beyond a general lack of awareness towards the world, Americans cannot track every issue at once, especially during a time like now with massive domestic breakdowns and dozens of small wars. The government relies on this blind-spot, which the media is supposed to guard. Clearly it doesn't.
This comment from a Huffington Post commenter...
As a nation we have become at peace with war. We need to get completely out of Iraq (closing all bases and funding no contractors), as well as completely withdrawing from Afghanistan. We are the only Country in the World that is paranoid about events happening 8000 miles away from its borders.
Obama quote
"It's well known that he and I disagreed about the war from its outset," Obama said. "Yet no one could doubt President Bush's support for our troops, or his love of country and commitment to our security."
OMG
I stole the George Harrison video, I love it...
RZ,
Well, you hit this squarely my friend.
How very true, just as my friends who died in Vietnam, the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have died for nothing. Well, not exactly nothing. Just as we did in Vietnam, the troops died for the obscene profits for the war industries, big oil, and the "too big to fail" banksters. War is big business you know.
As old Smedley Butler said, "War IS a racket". And a damn good one for those who profit from war.
We need to take the profit out of war, also, any politician who votes for war, they get to go to the front and their kids age 17 and up the same. Maybe then we might have fewer of these idiot wars of choice. Make war painful not profitable.
War is too easy and the unmanned drones make it easier yet. When war is so easy, who will be against it? Veterans for sure, but how many other people?
Words fail me to describe how disgusted I am that the troops died for nothing but profits. That innocent people died and are homeless in the countries we invaded and here at home as well. Home many of the returning troops will be homeless?
Where are the jobs for them to come home to? How do they and their families manage in what is left of the US economy? So many unanswered questions. So many more questions we have not even started to ask.
Sorry for going on too long. Just an old Vietnam vet ranting today.
Absolutely right, RZ.100% right.
Obama wants us to "turn the page" on Iraq, while leaving behind 1 million dead. And most Americans will happily do so, either uncaring of the deaths and the two-headed DU children. Perhaps even happy so many died, out of some misguided hatred.
Not even questioning why are 50K troops and 100K + contractors there, none under Iraqi control?
Charlie:
Well said.
Who and what they died for is another matter all together.
They are the old money of the Anglo world.
These fuckers finance both sides. they supply arms to both sides. Hell they even choose where and when the next hot spot will be.
They are the true Masters of War.
Fucking Banksters, and the Global Corpotocracy.
OSO: Why hasn't anyone asked O where these troops are going, and for how long?
Some are coming back due to a regular rotation. Their tour was up.
The Pentagon is leaving the Iraqi door ajar.
You know, like the Terminator said.
I'll be BACK.
They have already winked at it.
