Not doubting the "shift" into the Pacific, but this is looking like an overblown distraction from the Middle East/Africa. I don't consider Asia and counterinsurgency/nation-building to be mutually exclusive. Even war with Iran may devolve from conventional to unconventional.

To a certain extent I also see this as a head fake.
They are using this as a justification to build up the Navy and the Air Force.

Major elections are coming up at the end of this year in S/Korea.
S/K is leaning LEFT.
Japan will soon have to decide if they are Asian or if they are Western.
Japan and China have made a currency swap, soon Korea will follow.
That will represent 20% of all global trade.
Iran set up their own oil bourse mostly for petrochemicals, they also want to be paid other than the $$ for their oil.
If/when Taiwan leans even more toward China this will be a game changer.
Shillary did not go to Burma in order to talk about the Buddhist plight.
They want a boot print.

It is also about the Straits of Malacca and the S/China Sea.
MAJOR choke points.
